Tell the bees . . .
Gene Michael GLOVER, age 74, of Xenia and formerly of Sugarcreek Township, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, January 29, 2026. He was a beekeeper and an active member of our association. He served as GCBA president in 2004 and in 2007.
All services will be held at Sugar Valley Golf Club, 1250 Mead Rd, Bellbrook, Ohio, on February 21, 2026. The Rev. Kim Frank will be officiating. The visitation will be from 12 pm to 1 pm. The celebration of life will be held at 1 pm, followed by a gathering and fellowship.

presents Bee Biologist, an Online Self-Paced Class
This course introduces learners to the fundamental biology of honey bees and their pollinator relatives. Through six structured modules, participants will explore colony life cycles, communication strategies, species diversity, and the ecological importance of bees. The course combines video lectures, readings, and quizzes to provide a self-paced, comprehensive overview of bee biology.

This will be a valuable experienced for all to get prepared for the Honeybee Season 2026! Middle School STEAM Night

Christy Piszkiewicz will be representing GCBA at the Bellbrook Middle School STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math) evening program with our 4-fold board, videos and beekeeping equipment. Christy would be grateful to have other beekeepers join her talking to middle schoolers and their families.

GCBA will be presenting a table from 1 – 4 PM. Think of this as a mall where you drop in to window shop for new activities that don’t require a device, as well as hands-on fun for all ages. Free event open to the public, for adults and families. You will be able to see people demonstrating fiber arts, crafts, games, and other analog skills. Many opportunities to participate too! This is Bellbrook-Sugarcreek’s participation in the Greene County Public Health’s Global Day of Unplugging.

Basic Beekeeping
March 27 & 28, 2026
Join Fran and Tom Davidson for an engaging 7-hour beekeeping course that dives deep into the fascinating world of honeybees on Jan. 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Jan. 17, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Whether you’re a beginner or looking to expand your knowledge, this course will teach you how to successfully start and manage your beehive from installation to thriving colonies. This course does require a fee of $50 per person with textbook or $35 without textbook. You may register at go.osu.edu/beekeeping26. Volunteer Annual Plant Sale

The OSU Extension Greene County Master Gardener Volunteers are hosting their annual spring plant sale. The sale includes a variety of plants grown by the Master Gardener Volunteers, including vegetables, herbs, perennials, natives, annuals and succulents. In addition to plants, there will be a selection of yard sale items specific to gardening … tools, pots, yard art, etc. There will also be Master Gardener Volunteers to answer your gardening questions. Proceeds support unbiased research-based education and outreach throughout Greene County.

GCBA Honey Harvest

The annual GCBA Honey Harvest is at Glen Helen’s Camp Greene, located at 3452 Grinnell Rd, Yellow Springs, on Saturday, June 20th, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Anyone interested in learning more about honeybees and beekeeping can come see beekeeping equipment, a demonstration of honey extraction, and ask questions of experienced beekeepers. Bring the family. There will be bee related activities, crafts, products and food trucks. Of course, local is available honey for purchase.

The GCBA helps sponsor apiaries at the Russ Nature Reserve and the Narrows Nature Reserve. You can safely observe the coming & goings of bees as they fly overhead to forage for nectar, pollen and water.

Swarm Reporting & Recovery
Don’t Panic. These bees are docile. Honeybees swarm in the spring to found new colonies. These are temporary camps while scouts search for new homes. We have a list of members who will collect swarms.
